Heads should roll at ZPC
EDITOR — It goes without saying that the country is trying to push for increased efficiency through the “ease of doing business” banner.
Now that the power utility, Zesa and the Ministry of Energy are trying to broker a power deal that will see the Zimbabwean energy supply stabilising, some people want to sabotage the process.
Why does the Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) delay authorisation of deals that are set to benefit the country and the company?
It shows that there is political motivation, considering that the current board was assembled by Dzikamai Mavhaire. The board members may still be serving the man who got them in.
The board members need to be evaluated so that there is a clear understanding of the interests they serve. Dr Daniel Shumba and his parliamentary portfolio committee on mines and energy should leave no stone unturned when they probe the ongoings at ZPC.
It frustrates that a group of people are delaying the authorisation of a number of projects that can potentially benefit the whole country.
Board members should be the brains behind an idea, making sure that water tight decisions are made at executive level.
Now, if they are acting against their expected mandate then they are not serving their purpose.
It seems that there are a lot of questionable decisions going on in the energy sector, it needs to be sanitised before the country is prejudiced of millions of dollars.
There needs to be a follow up on all the projects, including the one involving Wicknell Chivayo, which was reported by The Sunday Mail as to have gotten to a slow start.
I urge the authorities to do a complete audit of the energy industry from fuel imports, ZPC operations and all the projects currently going on.
There may be revelations if someone looks closely.
