Togaraseyi not registered as an architect
EDITOR — The Institute of Architects of Zimbabwe (IAZ) and Architects Council of Zimbabwe (ACZ) board members note with grave concern the publication by your paper of an unregistered person as an architect (The Herald March 28, 2017).
It is important to remind your paper that the title “Architect” is a protected title under the Architects Act of Zimbabwe.
The Board is especially aggrieved not only for the illegality and publication of this article by your paper, but your paper chose to ignore the fact that we have always done business through advertising names of registered persons and their contact details periodically.
The publication purporting that one “Christopher Togaraseyi” has been perceived by our IAZ and ACZ boards as an affront to our efforts to mutually partner with your esteemed paper in educating the public on the statutes that govern professional institutions with specific considerations for the Architects Act.
We neither have a record of the purported architect’s qualifications nor an application from the said person that signals their intention to register as an architect in the near or distant future.
Please note that we have continuously tried to educate the public on the process it takes for one to become an architect, details of which are available upon request.
We trust your article will be revoked expeditiously coupled with a free updated publication of the list of registered architects we have always published with your paper.
This is in the interest of safeguarding the public from practices by unregistered persons, in addition to ensuring that our support for your advertising space is accorded the requisite respect and due attention.
For any further details please contact the undersigned. T.A Matondo, President, Institute of Architects of Zimbabwe.
