Namibian president to officially open ZITF
NAMIBIAN President Hage Geingob is coming to Zimbabwe this week for a State visit that will include the opening of the 58th edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, among other activities.
The State visit runs from April 26 to 28 and the two countries are expected to sign four Memoranda of Understanding.
Prior to the visit, representatives of the two countries will meet from today to Wednesday for the Eighth Session of the Zimbabwe-Namibia Joint Permanent Commission of Co-operation (JPCC).
Concurrent to the Joint Commission Session, the 4th Session of the Zimbabwe-Namibia political and diplomatic consultations will be held.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the visiting president was expected to hold a series of meetings.
“On April 27, 2017, after the official meetings with His Excellency President Mugabe, President Geingob is expected to travel to Kariba for a tour of the Kariba Power Plant Expansion project.
“On April 28, President Geingob is scheduled to officially open the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair in Bulawayo,” said the ministry.
The Eighth Session of the Joint Commission will be convened at Rainbow Towers in Harare.
“The Eighth Session of the Zimbabwe-Namibia Joint Permanent Commission of Co-operation precedes the State visit and will convene from April 24 to April 26, 2017 at the Rainbow Towers in Harare.”
Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi will chair the meeting alongside Namibia Deputy Prime Minister, who is also Minister of International Relations and Co-operation, Mr Netumbo Nandi Ndaitwah.
The Joint Commission is expected to discuss co-operation in trade and investment, energy, agriculture, mining, information and communication, transport, environment and tourism and human capital development, among others.
“During the consultations, the two sides are expected to exchange views on political, social and cultural development in their respective countries.
“The two sides will also exchange views on bilateral, regional, continental and global issues of mutual concern and interest on the diplomatic and political front,” said the ministry.
This week’s activities are confirmation of the two countries’ strong ties.
“Both the State visit by President Geingob and his high-powered delegation, the convening of the 8th Session of the Joint Commission, are indicative of the long standing excellent bilateral relations between the two countries.
“The State visit affords the two countries an opportunity to exchange views and enhance co-operation on matters of mutual interest at all levels,” said the ministry.
