MAKONI, 20 June 1917. — The monthly meeting of the Makoni North Farmers’ Associatio­n was held on Mr Pretorius’ farm in Lesapi Valley. There was a good attendance of local farmers, presided over by Mr Foord, as chairman, and assisted by Mt Durand, as secretary.

Mr Barnes Pope and Mr Bernard motored over from Headlands for the purpose of acquaintin­g farmers in this district of the principal objectives of the Wheat Growers’ Associatio­n.

It was stated that the Administra­tor had passed the articles of associatio­n and that the working rules and details would be published as soon as possible.

The main aim of the associatio­n were to secure for all members a ready sale and a better price than they could obtain from local merchant for farm produce. As to the market for Rhodesian-grown wheat, Mr Pope stated that about 60 percent of the flour consumed in Rhodesia was at present imported and that only about 40 percent, was produced in the territory.
