Mudyanadzo wins tourney
MUNYARADZI MUDYANADZO was crowned the Special Olympics Zimbabwe 2017 golf champion after he managed 92 points over 18-holes.
Mudyanadzo, a national team player, was part of a pilot and exciting new initiative called Performance Stations.
Munyaradzi Musariri was second on 97 points, while Raramayi Mutongwindo finished third.
The nine-hole tournament was won by Kudzi Mwakudza and Tinodana Masuku was the runner-up.
The event saw six Athletes Performance Enhancing Stations — Competition Readiness Station, Nutrition Station, Hydration Station, Physical Fitness Station, Local Opportunities Station and the Pledge Wall. The performance stations will be staged during the Special Olympics Annual National Golf tournament at Chapman.
The new initiative ensured that Special Olympics Athletes perform at their best by connecting fitness to sport performance. Athletes are assisted to complete a competition readiness assessment and are provided with the requisite items and guidance for optimal sport performance.
Set up as a sports fair, there was a station where athletes were taught about the importance of hydration, another station where a nutritionist will link healthy eating to fitness and performance and another station where a physical fitness trainer had an opportunity to take the athletes, parents, volunteers and coaches through physical training and educate them on easy-to-do exercises that they can do on a day-to-day basis to improve on strength, balance and physical fitness. The performance stations aim is to educate and activate members of the movement in competition readiness and the tenets of fitness — nutrition, hydration and physical activity.
Through the performance station experience, athletes, partners, coaches, family members, volunteers and staff learn how to improve performance on the day of competition and in the future.
With improved fitness, everyone can improve their performance in both sport and health, leading to a better quality of life.
