Youths demand stands refund

- Luthando Mapepa Chipinge Correspondent

ANGRY Zanu-PF youths in Chipinge demanded refunds for stands promised by former provincial youth chairman Mubuso Chinguno.

The youths, who were gathered at Chipinge Country Club, demanded answers from the new provincial youth chair, Cde Tawanda Mukodza, who was in the district as part of a familiarisation tour.

The youths, who made a litany of demands, also asked for the immediate removal of some provincial youth members who were accused of working with the ousted Chinguno.

One of the angry youths, Cde Innocent Simango, said the youths in Chipinge were worried that no one was making an effort to recover the stolen money.

Members of the youth wing who worked with Chinguno, he said, were still walking free.

“The youths here are aggrieved over thousands of dollars they were fleeced by Chinguno and his relatives,” he said.

“Nothing has been done to bring them to book and they are walking scot free on the streets.

“We demand justice to take its course and this will set a good example to would-be offenders.

“As youths in Chipinge, we are also demanding that those who helped Mubuso to steal should be fired or assigned to other positions because they have proved unfit to hold office.”

Another provincial youth league member, Cde Bernard Mhlanga, said youths who were duped should be allocated stands for free.

“What was stolen is money not the land, so why have we not been allocated the stands,” he said.

“We are urging all the stakeholders in this matter to treat this issue with urgency because it has tarnished the party’s image here in Chipinge.”

In his response, Cde Mukodza promised to expeditiously deal with the matter.

“The province is big and together with my executive, we will bring the issue forward,” he said.

“We cannot give answers here because we are guided by the constitution.

“What we are promising you here is that my administration will make sure that all those who committed offences will face the music.

“The aim of this tour was not to solve the stands dispute, but we realise youths here are not happy over their stolen money.”

Cde Mukodza said there were a lot of matters that needed to be solved on behalf of the youths.

“We have received a number of reports and we know for a fact that bona fide beneficiaries of the stands were sidelined,” he said.
