Response to “Harare residents deserve service they are getting” Early last month, council came live on air informing Harare residents that water was no longer safe for human consumption. Today we are being told that it is safe, even though we all know it is not. However, for the mayor to blame people for the council’s failure is wrong. There are many ways to deal with people who do not pay for services, for example prepaid meters. If dirty water is what we deserve, what about poor roads and uncollected waste? — @Mutsagoronald.

*** Harsh, but true. People should pay rates. Council only uses what we give it. We are expecting too much from council yet there are people who are more than 12 months in arrears. We can be better than this Zimbabwe. — @majonya.

*** Responses to “Sulu convicted, given

deadline to settle child arrears.” A real man should not keep breeding while failing to maintain his children. The courts should be tough. A lot of children are suffering. — @Chamunorwa.

Responses to “99-year leases to white farmers” President Mnangagwa can change many things. He has attributes of a just President, who is reasonable and tolerant. He is so considerate and focused. Keep it up Mr President. — Adam Chikandiwa.

*** Good news, we are all Zimbabweans. It was Tongogara’s wish to see white and black people working together for the benefit of the country. — Norman Chibatamoto. *** Response to “Harare residents deserve service they are getting” Our mayor says the truth as it is! He should also find a proper way to disconnect water from those who do not pay. How do people who cannot pay expect to get clean water, subsidised by those who pay! — Tambai Mese Mujairane.

I think it is totally suicidal for the mayor to talk publicly like he did concerning the issue of poor service delivery. As much as we may try to line this talk with politicking, it is clear the man has failed to bring ends together. By the kind of response he gave, he was simply saying enough is enough. For monitory reasons, he was probing and provoking the authorities to fire him, so he can be kicked out with terminal benefits as compared to what one gets after voluntarily tendering a resignation. This job is as cumbersome as it has always been, whether one gets it through politicking, secondment or qualification. All we know is that it takes a heart to manage emotions, it takes a soul to swallow bitterness and it takes a real character to stand the heat, especially under a harsh economic situation like we have experienced. — Ray Mbada.

Responses to “Harare residents deserve service they are getting.” Is it not the responsibility of council to collect arrears? Thus the lousy service still rests on council negligence. They do not cut their salaries until debts are recovered do they? — Rudeologist. *** Solution is simple, prepaid water meters in which rates are in-built in the water charge. Those who do not pay, do not get water. — Yowe. *** Response to “99-year leases to white farmers” It is good to give a 99-year lease to people who are willing to be productive. What is the rationale of having Kintyre Estate turned into a residential area? —Yowe. *** Response to “Chigumba new ZEC chairperson” Congratulations Justice Chigumba! You will make a difference. — Vanavedu.
