Chiredzi RDC ready to partner aspiring leaders
CHIREDZI Rural District Council says it is prepared to partner aspiring councillors and Members of Parliament to undertake developmental projects while expressing concern over the proliferation of individuals who were initiating projects without council’s nod.
Chiredzi RDC chief executive Mr Isaac Matsilele said his council was prepared to offer technical expertise to individuals willing to start developmental projects in the district as part of their campaigns ahead of this year’s elections.
Mr Matsilele has since officially complained to the Zanu-PF leadership in Masvingo over the high number of aspiring candidates from the party who embarked on projects in the district without permission. “Chiredzi Rural District Council as the planning and development authority for Chiredzi District is witnessing a lot of projects being undertaken by aspiring candidates ahead of this year’s elections,” read part of the letter by Mr Matsilele addressed to Zanu-PF Masvingo vice chair Cde Ailess Baloyi.
“While the local authority appreciates the complementary roles being played by the aspiring candidates, their efforts, however, need to be well-coordinated by closely working with our council.”
Mr Matsilele said council was prepared to offer technical expertise to all candidates who are prepared to undertake developmental projects.
“For the avoidance of doubt, it is the role of the RDC to plan and control development in the areas under its jurisdiction.
“In this regard all development efforts should be implemented under the purview of the local authority guidelines,” he said.
In Chiredzi North, sugarcane farmer Mr Roy Bhila availed over $70 000 towards various road construction projects while in Chiredzi West former Tongaat Hulett director Mr Farai Musikavanhu has so far spent over $50 000 on the construction of a classroom block and rehabilitation of some vending stalls in Chiredzi town.
Recently, Chiredzi Town Council chairman councillor Francis Moyo also availed $73 000 for new roads being opened under the supervision of the local authority.
