New school for Beitbridge

BEITBRIDGE Rural District Council and World Vision Zimbabwe have entered into a partnership to construct a new secondary school in Ward 6, an official has said.

In an interview yesterday, the council’s chief executive Mr Peter Moyo said World Vision was providing funds through its Limpopo Area Development office.

He said the project would see the construction of four classroom blocks and teachers’ cottages at a cost of $100 000.

“Civil works for one classroom block began early this month,” said Mr Moyo.

“World Vision is providing the funds and material with the community contributing labour and council providing technical support.

“The project is being implemented in two phases. In the first half, we will construct two classroom blocks and two teachers’ cottages. Next year we will then complete the remaining two classroom blocks and teachers’ cottages.”

Mr Moyo said they expected the school to enrol its first pupils in January next year.

He said the school will serve children from four feeder primary education facilities, including Malala, Mtetengwe, Umzingwane and Makakavhule.

In a recent interview, World Vision Limpopo Area development manager, Mrs Pretty Dube, said the Malala project was part of the programme to promote infrastructure development.

“We will also drill boreholes to improve the access to clean water at the school and build teachers’ houses at the new school,” she said.
