‘We’re a multi-racial party’

- Midlands Correspondent

ZANU-PF is a multi-racial revolutionary party and people should not be swayed by fly-by-night political parties, the party secretary for War Veterans Cde Victor Matemadanda has said.

Addressing a war veterans’ meeting in Gweru yesterday, Cde Matemadanda said war veterans were divided during former president Mugabe’s rule and should begin to find each other and work for the party with one voice.

He said everyone should be incorporated into the party ahead of the harmonised elections without discriminating people based on colour or creed.

“The revolutionary party is a people’s party. It’s multiracial, but we know as war veterans, there were attempts to divide us in November last year, the people of Zimbabwe demonstrated beyond any doubt that we are one people with one mission.

“Even white people took to the streets and were heard shouting “Garwe, Garwe” meaning Zanu-PF is a strong multi-racial party,” he said.

Cde Matemadanda said war veterans should work hard in uniting people ahead of the harmonised elections.

He said war veterans always play a role in uniting people in elections.

“I know as war veterans we have our grievances, but the new administration has shown concern and will surely address our grievances. We should focus on wining the elections at the moment,” he said

Speaking at the same function, Zanu-PF Midlands provincial chairman, Cde Daniel Mackenzie Ncube urged all party members to defend the country’s gains by voting resoundingly for Zanu-PF.

“War veterans have always been fighting for the values of the party. Some of you have been arrested several times, but stood fast. We should work hard for the party and win elections,” he said.
