SPEAKER of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda is leading a five-member committee of Zimbabwean legislators to the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference currently underway in Geneva, Switzerland, as the new administration seeks to strengthen ties with the international community through active participation on global issues.

Responding to emailed questions, one of the committee members attending the IPU conference and Member of Parliament for Mkoba, Mr Amos Chibaya, said part of the agenda was to strengthen the global regime for migrants and refugees.

He said the committee was also reporting on the country’s achievements towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

“I am also a member of the committee of young Parliamentarians and we are also reporting on youths participation in politics,” said Mr Chibaya.

He said there was a lot of interest on the new developments in Zimbabwe and parliamentarians from across the globe who are attending the conference were eager to know more about Zimbabwe.

“It feels good interacting with everyone here.

“They seem to be very interested in knowing more about Zimbabwe and the investment opportunities in the country under the new dispensation led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“It seems the country is a destination of choice at the moment and everyone is expressing hope for the country,” he said.

On youths’ participation in politics, Mr Chibaya said the conference was happy that Zimbabwe and the new administration had created a conducive environment that encourages youth participation in politics.

“We have also presented a report on how the country has moved forward promoting freedom of speech and how youths were also participating in Zimbabwean politics,” he said.

Other members of Parliament completing the team on IPU in Geneva are Honourables William Mutomba, Jennifer Mhlanga, Paradzai Chikona, and Alford Charumbira.
