Provinces’ twinning pays dividends
SOUTH Korean Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Cho Jaichel and officials from the country’s Gyeonngsangnam-Do province, last week commissioned projects that they are undertaking in Mazowe and Bindura districts worth hundreds of thousands as part of the twinning agreement between the Korean province and Mashonaland Central.
This is one of the success stories of developmental partnerships between the two Governments which started in 2014, in which they collaborated in the areas of health, agriculture and education among others with the objective of enhancing community development.
Their first port of call was Mazowe District where they commissioned a nursing staff semi-detached house and water reticulation system at Vonabo Clinic.
They proceeded to Bindura District, Chiveso area where they commissioned a labour ward at Chiveso Clinic, piggery and poultry project, two greenhouses, 40 000-litre elevated water reservoir and a common working place at the Ushongani Saemaul Community Centre.
The common working place is equipped with a meat cutting machine as well as a sausage making machine.
The last port of call was Glamorgan Clinic in the same district, where they commissioned another semi-detached nursing staff house and water reticulation system. The initiative has also seen the renovation of Bindura Provincial Hospital’s outpatients and casualty section and there are plans to equip the casualty section with the standard medical equipment.
In a speech read on his behalf by Bindura assistant District Administrator, Mr Cuthbert Huwaya, Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Advocate Martin Dinha said the Korean government had demonstrated its commitment and passion to the success of the twinning initiative by undertaking multiple visits to Zimbabwe for the purpose of supporting the community projects which is commendable.
“Today is yet another historic day which is inspiring and uplifting as we gather to witness the commissioning of the projects which came as a result of collaboration among the community, the Korean government and our Government,” he said.
“To date, our collaboration efforts have witnessed increased support for essential interventions in our communities and have promoted positive livelihoods.
“As you are aware that our Government is on a new trajectory and has rolled out 100-day plans to accelerate development, this occasion provides various areas where collaborations remains vital.”
Speaking at the same occasion, Ambassador Cho Jaichel said Zimbabwe has great potential not only because of its abundant natural resources, but because of its people who are intelligent and well educated on the whole of the African continent.
