SALISBURY, 2 May 1968. — The Minister of Local Government and Housing, Mr Mark Partridge, has consented to the construction by Salisbury City Council of a parking garage with shops in Union Avenue.
The consent has been given provided the Council agrees to introduce time-restricted parking in Salisbury before the garage is opened.
The parking garage, which is to be built on the present car park site in Union Avenue will have accommodation for 774 cars, groundfloor shops which could be used as offices and a depot which parcels or goods could be left for safe keeping.
When it was first decided to build a parking garage in Salisbury, the Council favoured a site in Gordon Avenue.
