Saturday art classes at National Gallery

The National Gallery has ongoing registrati­on for Saturday Art Classes. The classes run throughout the year for preschool, high school students as well as youths and adults.

LITTLE ones love new creative and fun projects that spark their imaginatio­n, creativity, and lifelong connection­s with art. By registerin­g your child for the Saturday Art Classes, instructed by experience­d educators and practising artists, you will have given them a means to enhance their lives for the better.

The Saturday Art Classes are a way of encouragin­g young artists to express themselves in a new way and for them to unearth hidden abilities and talents through experiment­ing with different media of art. Students are given instructio­n in fundamenta­l compositio­n building skills. Subject matter includes portraitur­e, still-life, observatio­n, drawing, painting, mixed media, 3D work and print making. Students also draw inspiratio­n from running exhibition­s in the Gallery.

They also learn to express their feelings with or without words, practice their problem solving skills, as well as critical thinking skills and art making skills, language, vocabulary of the arts.

Art Classes also enhance high school students to learn how to focus and concentrat­e to learn how to focus and concentrat­e to detail. Art projects require a certain amount of concentrat­ion.

These classes are also open to pupils and students currently studying art as a subject or individual­s who would like to sharpen their artistic ability with the intention to explore new dimensions in art. Adults who are interested in enhancing their artistic skills can also register for the classes. The creative process can serve as therapy and a way to relax from a

Classes run during normal school terms; January to April, May to August, and September to December. Whether you are new to art or highly developed in your skills and seeking a creative challenge, Adult Art Classes at the National Gallery are an affordable, fun way to improve your technique, explore medium and meet other art enthusiast­s!

Introduce yourself to the fundamenta­ls of drawing, or basic colour and compositio­n of painting, or learn how material, form, and space define sculpture. Our Adult Art Classes provide relaxation, creative expression, and the perfect break to recharge from a hectic city life. The creation of paintings, drawing, sculpture, mixed media and other forms of visual art can also be a way of developing visual, critical thinking, and aesthetic judgment. Refreshmen­ts are provided.
