Assist Govt, churches urged

CHURCHES have been encouraged to assist Government institutions such as hospitals through providing materials that can sustain their operations, a church leader has said.

Salvation Army Harare Central Division leader Major Casmen Chinyemba said this during a youth clean-up campaign at Harare Central Hospital on Saturday.

Apart from cleaning, the youths also donated toilet paper to the health institution.

Major Chinyemba said the campaign, which is ongoing and will soon move to the central business district (CBD), also sought to teach youths to be responsible citizens.

“Cleaning campaign is one of our social responsibilities as a church. Not only are we cleaning, but also teaching the youths to be responsible citizens to the country as a whole,” he said

One of the church’s youth leaders, Mr Kudzanai Sharara, said the initiative is also expected to set an example for the community.

“Health institutions must be clean at all times; so we have set an example to the rest of the community to be responsible in helping these institutions,” he said.

Another youth leader, Mr Garikai Mazuru, said the church was also expected to give a helping hand to society.

“I am happy that we are doing something tangible as a church, not just to preach to the people to win souls, but also going out there in the community and help where there is need.”
