ZPCS commits to improve service delivery
ZIMBABWE Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to improve service delivery through extending appropriate training programmes to prison officers.
Speaking at the Supervisory Course Number One of 2018 graduation ceremony held at Chikurubi Prisons Training School last week, ZPCS Deputy Commissioner-General Dr Alford Mashango Dube said the training course is useful in safety and upholding the integrity of the organisation.
The course, which began on January 22, 2018, was attended by 45 participants of the rank of Correctional Officer Grade Three (CO3).
“The general consensus in any organisational set-up stipulates that training is a catalyst in modelling and shaping human variable ideals for the organisation . . . It is with this in mind that as the ZPCS, we remain committed to enhancing service delivery through extending appropriate training programmes to members of staff,” said Deputy CommGen Dube.
He also urged female students to actively participate in developmental courses.
“I am very much concerned about the reluctance of female officers to partake in developmental courses.
“I am informed the course had 36 male officers and only nine female officers.
“Surely, this is a cause for concern and l want to challenge all females officers to stand up and be counted.
“Don’t be left behind by your male counterparts,” he said.
He said the CO3 supervisory course will go a long way in enhancing the competence of those tasked to supervise and manage officers below their ranks.
“The lack of skilled and professional supervisors at some stations has been affecting the operations of the organisation in a negative way.
“I strongly believe that your graduation will go a long way in addressing such problems. This course is a deliberate effort to create a CO3 who is capable of delivering effective first level supervisory ethics that are focused towards achieving the organisation’s objectives,” he said.
