Zanu-PF ready for reruns
PREPARATIONS for Zanu-PF primary election reruns in Manicaland are at an advanced stage, with the province’s political commissariat saying it was only awaiting official confirmation of the voting date.
Provincial political commissar Cde Gift Kagweda yesterday said the reruns will be held in Buhera West and Chipinge Central.
“Preparations for the elections are already underway and they are at an advanced stage. They (elections) are said to be happening on May 14, but I am yet to receive official communication from the national executive,” he said.
Voters in the two constituencies will choose party representatives in the House of Assembly, Senate and local authority elections expected in July.
According to Cde Kagweda, people will also be given an opportunity to vote for councillors and senators in selected wards where voting did not take place.
“People will vote for senators in Buhera, Chipinge Central and Makoni West, Central and North. Those areas did not vote when other areas did,” he said.
In Dangamvura-Chikanga constituency, people will also vote for councillors in two wards where voting did not take place and similarly in Chimanimani East, people will also vote for councillors in two wards.
Further, five wards will also vote for councillors in Chipinge East, with four wards voting in Chipinge South to select their representatives in local government.
People in Buhera North and Central will also choose their councillors, while eight wards in Buhera South are set to vote for representatives in local authorities.
“There is a programme lined up for those who have won during the primaries. The programme will start soon after the results of these elections are announced.
“I am sure the programme starts with a provincial coordinating committee meeting where winners will be announced. We will have inter-district meetings to inform people in terms of campaigns,” he said.
