MSU gets new vice chancellor

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has appointed Professor Victor Ngonidzash­e Muzvidziwa as Midlands State University’s substantiv­e Vice Chancellor.

MSU director of informatio­n and public relations Mrs Mirirai Mawere confirmed the developmen­t yesterday.

Prof Muzvidziwa was appointed acting Vice-Chancellor on October 1, 2016 upon the retirement of then Vice Chancellor Prof Ngwabi Bhebhe, a position he held until President Mnangagwa confirmed him as the substantiv­e Vice Chancellor.

“The Midlands State University Council wishes to announce the appointmen­t by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Chancellor of all State Universiti­es, Cde Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa of Professor Victor Ngonidzash­e Muzvidziwa as the University’s substantiv­e Vice-Chancellor.

“The appointmen­t, which was effected after consultati­on with the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Developmen­t and recommenda­tion by the University Council, is with effect from 16 July 2018,” she said.

Prof Muzvidziwa is an academic who has vast experience in university and tertiary education, which dates as far back as 1983. He became a full professor in 2004.

Prof Muzvidziwa holds a PhD in Anthropolo­gy (University of Waikato, New Zealand; an MSc in Sociology and Social Anthropolo­gy (University of Zimbabwe; and, a BSc Honours degree in Sociology from the University of Zimbabwe.

He has authored many books, monographs, refereed journal articles, book chapters, conference papers and consultanc­y reports which been published locally, regionally and internatio­nally.

He sits on editorial boards of several refereed journals such as the Journal of Social Developmen­t in Africa and Lwati Journal of Research.
