BEITBRIDGE West Member of Parliament-elect Cde Ruth Maboyi has said the upgrading of water and sanitation facilities and the upgrading of road network infrastructure are top of her priority list in her constituency.

In an interview yesterday, the firebrand politician said she has hit the ground running and expected the servicing and drilling of more boreholes to commence soon.

She said people were encountering challenges in terms of accessing potable water and that the poor road network had resulted in transport challenges in some very remote areas of the constituency.

Cde Maboyi said she has started engaging development players to roll out the rehabilitation of boreholes.

“I am looking forward to a successful term, where consultation and servant leadership shall be in my handbook to champion development in Beitbridge West constituency,” she said.

“In addition it is important to note that we are going to tap in the community’s priority projects and align them with our party’s 2018 elections manifesto.

“As a people oriented party, we will continue from where we left off in terms of promoting infrastructure development. I want to assure the electorate in my area that our relationship did not end on election day, we must work together in fulfilling the promises and agreements we made during the campaigns.

“The most important and urgent issues we need to start working on include the road network and identify all boreholes which need fixing and areas where we should be drilling more.”

Cde Maboyi said it was important for political leaders, traditional leaders and businesses to work together in uplifting the standard of life at household level.

She said the unemployed youths in the area will be engaged for the road network rehabilitation programmes, so that they improve their livelihoods.

Cde Maboyi encouraged youths and women to form co-operatives and also to embrace government programme seeking to address their economic development challenges.

“They must make use of the Women’s Bank and the Youth Bank to access capital for various projects which enhance sustainable and economic development,” she said.

According to Cde Maboyi, there is a strong need for luminaries born in the area but are based outside the country to take up investment in various socio-economic development activities.

She urged mobile telephone service providers to extend coverage to Swereki, Limpopo, Shashe and Jalukange among other outline areas where there was either poor or virtually no communication signal.

“Under the new political dispensation, it is important that we work together from grassroots level in addressing cross cutting issues affecting the communities,” she said.
