- Freedom Mupanedemo Midlands Bureau

ZANU-PF Midlands provincial leadership has said party members should celebrate its victory in the National Assembly elections peacefully and desist from violent tendencies that were being exhibited by the opposition MDC supporters.

Midlands provincial chairman Cde Mackenzie Ncube said the province was calm and urged party supporters to remain peaceful and celebrate in a peaceful manner.

Cde Mackenzie’s remarks came after sporadic demonstrations by MDC supporters in Gweru on Wednesday evening and violent demonstrations that claimed three lives in Harare on the same day.

“As the Midlands we did well, we won 22 constituencies out of 28. We however wanted a clean sweep after the hard work we put in.

“As we celebrate our sweet victory we want to remain peaceful. We do not condone violence and as the people of Midlands, we should remain calm even in the face of provocation we want to maintain peace,” he said.

Cde Ncube said President Mnangagwa has reiterated the need for peace and people should remain as such.

He condemned the violence that broke out in Harare on Wednesday saying Zimbabweans should not resort to violence and avoid bloodshed by accepting the will of the majority.

“The President has been very emphatic on this issue (of peace). Let’s celebrate in peace and harmony we should not resort to violence. Where we are aggrieved by the results lest just accept the verdict of the majority.

“We always remain Zimbabweans in our diversity and different political affiliations,” said Cde Mackenzie.

He said the provincial party leadership was already looking beyond elections and was now focusing on delivering on the promises made to the public during the campaigns.

“The President has also reiterated the need to put our economy first as the Midlands province; we are already looking beyond the election.

Looking on how we implement our promises how to make our economy grow as the Midlands province,” he said.

Cde Mackenzie said Zimbabweans should remain united by a common cause and the focus should be on rebuilding the economy.
