- Midlands Reporter

NEWLY-ELECTED Vhungu constituency National Assembly representative Cde Omega Sibanda has promised to deliver numerous and effective services in his constituency in line with Government’s vision of transforming the economy, as well as changing the living standards of the people.

Cde Sibanda, who was elected on a Zanu-PF ticket, polled 11 350 votes.

He hailed people in the constituency for supporting him, something which he said demonstrated the trust and confidence they had in the party.

“I want to thank the people of Vhungu constituency and partly those in Lower Gweru for supporting me and ultimately our party Zanu-PF for it has emerged as a tried and tested political giant,” said Cde Sibanda.

“I could not have been able to earn over 11 000 votes without their support.”

Cde Sibanda defeated eight other candidates who included Mr Dube Junior of PRC, Mr Leopard Kona of ZIPP, Mr Nimrod Lunga of MDC Alliance, Mr Maxwell Ntonisani of MDCT, Mr Nqabutho Mpofu (independent) and Mr Mark Chumi of NPF.

“My party’s vision for development really ignites my efforts towards improving my constituency,” he said.

“Zanu-PF has transformed itself into an economic development-oriented political party, hence I am invigorated to lobby for Vhungu to become an economic processing zone and that is possible.”

Cde Sibanda promised that he was going to make an impact in the new Government as he had already laid down plans to transform Vhungu.

“I have a plan that integrates and develop Vhungu constituency into a competitive area through infrastructure development as I had promised,” he said.

“I will improve the irrigation scheme and create paddocks for farmers so that they rear livestock and improve road network to connect the farmers with markets in Gweru.

“I have a plan that incorporates computerisation of schools and clinics so that they can offer better services as well as to build them nearer and to improve the number of doctors and medicine in clinic.”
