Chiefs look forward to prosperous Zim under ED

- Midlands Correspondent

THE Zimbabwe Chiefs’ Council has said it is looking forward to a prosperous Zimbabwe under the leadership of President Mnangagwa.

In an interview, Chiefs’ Council deputy president Senator Chief Ngungumbane said the Chiefs’ Council is prepared to improve livelihoods of rural people.

He said under the new Government, they are ready to address challenges faced by people from rural areas.

“As the Chiefs’ Council we are ready to work under the new Government, and we foresee a prosperous Zimbabwe,” he said.

“We want to improve the lives of people especially those in the rural areas.

“Most roads in the rural parts of the Midlands province are in a bad state.

“There is a need to rehabilitate and tar main roads. A good road network system attracts investors.”

Chief Ngungumbane said water woes would be a thing of the past.

“In areas like Chirumanzu, Mberengwa and Zvishavane there are water challenges,” he said. “People travel long distances to nearby water sources and most of those sources are not protected, exposing people to water borne diseases like cholera and dysentery.

“As the Chiefs’ Council, we will address that challenge by making sure that rural folks have access to clean tap water just like their urban counterparts.”

Chief Ngungumbane said there was need to construct more schools in rural areas.

“Children in rural areas travel long distance to nearby schools and some risk being raped along the way,” he said.

“There is also a need for more clinics and hospitals for the rural population. The clinics that are there at the moment should be upgraded and developed in order to meet international standards while new clinics must be built.”

Chief Ngungumbane said they will also implore Government to improve the welfare of chiefs.

The Government under the leadership of President Mnangagwa has pledged to upgrade the living standards of chiefs by putting up modern infrastructure like electricity in their homes.

Recently chiefs from around the country were given new vehicles.
