‘This is our Promised Land’
ZANU-PF Masvingo Provincial secretary for finance, who is also National Assembly member-elect for Zaka North Constituency, Cde Robson Mavhenyengwa has said President Mnangagwa’s emphatic victory was a show of confidence by Zimbabweans.
He said the new dispensation led by Cde Mnangagwa was primed to stir massive economic development in the country.
Addressing hundreds of Zanu-PF supporters at a meeting to organise victory celebrations at Rumwanda Business Centre last week, Cde Mavhenyengwa said Zimbabweans were given a biblical Joshua.
“Zimbabwe is like a biblical Egypt. It took the people of Israel 40 years to reach their Promised Land of Canaan. Zimbabwe has also been on the journey to the Promised Land for 38 years under the leadership of former president Robert Mugabe and today we have finally reached our Promised Land under the steward leadership of Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa,” he said.
He said the Head of State and Government was the best candidate to take over from Mr Mugabe and was going to rescue people from economic hardships.
“Let us all support our President, he is our Joshua. Through his ‘Zimbabwe is open for business’ mantra, the country is indeed set to become a middle income economy by 2030.
“In addition, the re-engagement initiative will redirect our focus from isolation to inclusivity and promote investments to grow the economy and create employment opportunities for Zimbabweans,” said Cde Mavhenyengwa.
Zimbabwe has just emerged from a historic election where the ruling Zanu-PF party powered to victory during the July 30 harmonised elections. The revolutionary party garnered 145 seats in the National Assembly polls with its leader getting 50,8 percent of votes, beating his closet rival Mr Nelson Chamisa of the MDC-Alliance who received 44,3 percent. “President Mnangagwa’s peace-loving messages has won the people’s hearts. People love peace and in a peaceful country there is development,” he said
Cde Mavhenyengwa encouraged the newly-elected parliamentarians to fulfil their pre-elections promises. “Those who won should walk their talk .They should remember what they promised the electorate as we reach our promised land,” he said.
