Youth Games committee in race against time

THE Sports Commission are yet to assure the availability of food for athletes with less than two weeks before the start of the 2018 National Youth and Paralympics Games.

Previous competitions have a documented history of chaos with several host provinces coming short.

Midlands promised to stage a memorable event.

With the Games set to commence on August 15, which is less than 10 days to go, food for competitors is yet to be secured.

However, organisers are adamant that everything will be in place by the start of the Games.

“I am quite sure that everything will be in order,” said Sports Commission’s Midlands Provincial co-ordinator Simon Masaka.

“At this moment we are still mobilising resources in terms of food, we will try to have the things in place.

“We have engaged chiefs and district administrators and they have started mobilising resources. The only thing that is set now is for the local organising committee to go there and collect what was mobilised.

“As a province we are prepared to host the Games. We had fears before, but where we are now we are confident that we will manage to host a memorable event.

“In terms of the facilities we are in the process of rehabilitating Chaplin High School and I am happy to say that we have got a company that is doing that job, they are on the ground now and they are rehabilitating the track.”
