THE Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) is committed to serving the communities they live in and maintain a mutual relationship with their publics, an official has said.

Speaking during the official handover of a block with two classrooms, which was constructed by the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) at Nyamauru Government Primary School in Mutare on Monday, Commander 3 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier-General Joe Muzvidziwa said ZDF had over the years been deliberately undertaking community assistance programmes in selected disadvantaged communities as a principle.

“The handover of a two-classroom block here at Nyamauru Primary School is a result of a fruitful synergy between ZDF and the Dangamvura community,” he said. “This is in line with their function as defined by the Constitution of Zimbabwe.”

Brig-Gen Muzvidziwa said one of the ways the ZDF fulfilled their national security obligations was by assisting disadvantaged communities through developmental projects.

The construction of the classroom block was the product of co-operation between 3 Infantry Brigade and the Dangamvura community.

The co-operation saw the school mobilising resources and 3 Infantry Brigade providing artisans for the construction work.

Speaking at the same event, provincial education director Mr Edward Shumba commended the partnership between the Ministry of Defence, parents and the school development association in addressing a pressing situation.

“My profound gratitude goes to the ZDF’s 3 Infantry Brigade for their invaluable assistance and timely intervention at Nyamauru Government Primary School with free labour for the construction of a two-classroom block,” he said.
