CHITUNGWIZA Municipality is set to terminate its contract with the private company that is responsible for the parking management system in the dormitory town, Parkrite Africa owned by Clyna Trading, due to its failure to remit funds to the local authority among other allegations.

Council engaged Clyna in March 2013 on a five-year contract in which the company was responsible for electronic billing and collection of fees, rentals and other applicable rates for motor vehicles under the jurisdiction of the municipality.

In an interview, acting chamber secretary Mrs Mary Mukonyora said plans were underway to terminate the contract.

“Yes we intend to terminate the contract but we are waiting for the engagement of an external auditor to calculate the amount of money, which was supposed to have been remitted to council against that which was actually remitted during the course of the engagement and after that we part ways,” she said.

“Clyna was no longer consistent in remitting funds and last submitted about $1 000 in March after some months. There was also a breach of some other terms of the contract.” From onset, residents were against the deal between the two parties saying it was not beneficial to council as the local authority was getting a meagre 30 percent of parking proceeds.
