Parly adds 5 more SROC members

PARLIAMENT yesterday added five more members to the Standing Rules and Orders Committee (SROC) and nominated members who will be in the Speaker of the National Assembly Panel.

The SROC has the mandate of supervisin­g the administra­tion of Parliament, formulate standing orders, considerin­g and deciding on all matters concerning Parliament and exercising any other functions that may be conferred or imposed on the Committee by the Constituti­on or by Standing Orders or any other law.

The SROC will have its inaugural meeting tomorrow.

The announceme­nt was made yesterday by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Advocate Jacob Mudenda, during the National Assembly sitting.

He said the appointmen­t of the SROC was done in terms of Section 151 (1) of the Constituti­on.

The added members of the SROC include leader of Government Business in Senate and Lands, Agricultur­e, Water, Climate and Rural Resettleme­nt Minister Perrance Shiri, leader of the opposition in the Senate, Engineer Elias Mudzuri, ZANU-PF Senate Chief Whip, Cde Tsitsi Muzenda, MDC-Alliance Senate Chief Whip, Lilian Timveos and Senator Omega Hungwe.

Buhera North Constituen­cy legislator, Cde William Mutomba, was retained in the Speaker’s Panel while Lupane West legislator, Cde Martin Khumalo, and Proportion­al Representa­tion legislator, Cde Tatenda Mavetera, were added.

Cde Khumalo and Cde Mavetera replaces Cde Melody Dziva and Cde Reuben Marumahoko who failed to make it to the Ninth Parliament.

Other members of the SROC who were announced by Advocate Mudenda on Tuesday included his deputy Cde Tsitsi Gezi, Senate president and deputy chairperso­n, Cde Mabel Chinomona and her deputy Lieutenant-General Michael Reuben Nyambuya (Retired).

Other members of the SROC include leader of Government Business in the House as well as Justice, Legal and Parliament­ary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, Minister of Finance and Economic Developmen­t, Professor Mthuli Ncube, Defence Minister, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri and leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Tabitha Khumalo.

ZANU-PF Chief Whip, Cde Pupurai Togarepi, MDC-Alliance Chief Whip, Prosper Mutseyami, president of the National Council of Chiefs, Chief Fortune Charumbira, Cde Muzenda and Cde Roy Billah are also be members of the SROC.
