Nichrut back to D1

Triangle ................................... (3) 4 Nichrut .....................................(1) 2

TEN-MAN Triangle played their last game at home and finished in style relegating Nichrut back to Division One football with an emphatic win at Gibbo yesterday.

Exactly a week after being crowned Chibuku Super Cup champions at the same venue, Triangle came into this match brimming with confidence.

After scoring an opener in the cup final captain Ralph Kawondera, who finished the match as the goalkeeper, after an injury to Ronald Mudimu in the late stages of the game continued with his goalscoring touch finding the target off a corner by Russel Madamombe inside 13 minutes.

Nichrut struggled to contain speedy Phineas Bamusi and conceded another corner in the 18th minute. Set piece specialist Madamombe varied and played a short corner to Nhamo Lameck who set up Arnold Chivheya for an easy finish for Triangle’s second.

It was goals galore at Gibbo as fans saw the third of the afternoon, this time it was Nichrut who reduced arrears from the penalty spot after Derwin Phiri handled inside the box.

Chiredzi-based Artwell Mazire, who officiated his first game at Gibbo this season, did not disappoint and awarded the relegated visitors with a chance to score.

Frankson Bushiri scored from 12 yards sending Mudimu the wrong way in the 22nd minute. There was a moment of magic in the 35th when Triangle won a free-kick 30 metres out. Lameck scored from the resultant free-kick with an unbelievable shot that left everyone in the stadium shell shocked, his 13th league goal of the season and easily his best this year.

Lameck, who is gunning for a place on the Soccer Stars calendar, scored his second of the afternoon from the spot after Bamusi was fouled inside the box.
