LEADING Midlands private land developer, River Valley Properties, last Friday officially handed over a refurbished sewer pump station to Shurugwi Town Council.

Shurugwi District Administrator Mr Langton Mupeta presided over the handover of the sewer pump station which was refurbished at a total cost of $2 million.

River Valley Properties also handed over 500 residential houses which it built for its clients under its Magakooshla housing project in Shurugwi.

Mr Mupeta commended River Valley Properties for bringing development to the mining town.

He said the refurbished sewer plant would help reduce blockages that have been bedevilling the town.

“We have had more than five land developers that were allocated land in Shurugwi, but for years now, only River Valley Properties and Shaesham have managed to develop the land they were allocated and built houses,” he said.

“Magakooshla is now a residential area and we are happy that Shurugwi is growing.”

Speaking at the same ceremony, River Valley chief executive Dr Smelly Dube said the company will maintain the sewer pump station for the next 12 months.

“We improved the sewer pump station for the town after we connected our Magakooshla sewer to it,” she said.

“We have handed over the plant after improving its pumping capacity.”

River Valley Properties also donated 100 refuse bins to the new Magakooshla housing scheme.

The ceremony was attended by Shurugwi North Member of Parliament Robson Nyathi and other dignitaries.
