Talent show on cards
THE Zanu PF Youth League has lined up various competition activities for youths from across the country as part of Heroes Day commemorations.
The National Heroes Day is celebrated every year as the nation pays tribute to the fallen gallant sons and daughters of Zimbabwe who sacrificed their lives during the liberation struggle which brought Independence in 1980.
This year, the day will be commemorated on August 9.
In an Interview, Zanu PF acting deputy secretary for Youth League Cde Tendai Chirau said an array of events are lined up for youths to participate in ahead of the National Heroes Day.
The people who are eligible to participate are those between 16 to 35 years.
“We have an array of events for this year as part of celebrations of the Heroes Day,” said Cde Chirau. “As the ruling party’s youth wing, we came up with a programme where we can give an opportunity to young people to express themselves through creativity.”
Cde Chirau said the competition which is dubbed: “National Heroes Talent Search” would be conducted with due recognition of the 16 official languages in the country.
“So, we have got a competition that is dubbed “National Heroes Talent Search,” it’s a combo because we have got different categories which we are looking at,” he said. “We are looking at those youths who are aged between 16 years and 35 years and these youths should be able to do various things.
“It’s a combo because we are focusing on youths who are able to replicate the liberation struggle songs and send the audio via a WhatsApp number provided on the poster which is +263714 970 300.”
Cde Chirau said the competition will include fashion design, poetry, singing and essay writing.
“There is also fashion design competition for those who can design clothes that were being clad during the liberation struggle
which is in tandem with this year’s theme,” he said.
“Those who can design those clothes which liberation war fighters used to wear are also accommodated because it’s part of the competition.
“We also need those with talents in terms of essay writing, they can also write their essays because ultimately what we want those winning essays will also be published in the Heroes Day special edition.
“This will encourage youths and establish their capabilities in terms of content creation about the liberation struggle.”
On poetry, Cde Chirau said those who are talented in the field would be accorded an opportunity to showcase their expertise.
These poets are required to submit their works via WhatsApp.
The events will be held virtually in line
with the need to reduce the spread of Covid-19.
“These activities are conducted virtually in line with the current situation where Government is putting every effort to curb the spread of Covid-19. It is difficult to gather people at one place.”
The competition will be running under the theme, “Re-living the Liberation Struggle Through Creativity”.
“So, we are calling upon youths from across the country to come and participate in this exciting national competition as we commemorate this important day,” said Cde Chirau.
