Let’s all unite to fight pandemic: Mohadi

ZANU PF Vice President and Second Secretary, Cde Kembo Mohadi yesterday implored citizens to observe protocols announced by the Government to minimise the spread of Covid-19.

His remarks come after 234 people succumbed to the pandemic in the Midlands Province alone in the last three weeks.

Cde Mohadi, who was meeting the Midlands Zanu PF provincial leadership, said the province was one of the most affected and urged Zimbabweans to observe Government and World Health Protocols aimed at containing he spread of the pandemic.

Cde Mohadi said Midlands has worrying statistics of both fatalities and the infected, hence the need to ensure the pandemic does not continue to spread.

“I have just received worrying statistics with regard to Covid-19 in Midlands Province. There were about 71 fatalities three weeks ago, but as we speak we have 305 people who have succumbed to Covid-19.

“We urge the people to refrain from attending unnecessary gatherings and observe the Covid-19 regulations to mitigate against the spread of the virus,” said Cde Mohadi.

However, he said it was encouraging that many people were now willing to receive Covid-19 vaccines as evidenced by the surge in numbers at vaccination centres.

“I heard that there are some shortages of the vaccines which shows that many people are now willing to be vaccinated. The good thing is that more vaccines are still coming and everyone who wants to be vaccinated will receive the vaccine.

“The Covid-19 strain being witnessed in the country is different from the others and the Government is working rigorously on campaigns and sensitising our people to get vaccinated,” he said.

Cde Mohadi, who also received the provincial update in terms of development, said he was happy with the emergency roads rehabilitation programme in the province, both in rural and urban areas.

“President Mnangagwa declared a state of national disaster of the roads and in the Midlands Province, roads and bridges are being rehabilitated.

“Even in urban areas like in the City of Gweru, the roads which were damaged following years of failure to rehabilitate them by the council, have been rehabilitated. The devolution funds are also being disbursed and there are projects that are being worked on across the province,” said Cde Mohadi.

On the party’s state of affairs in the province, Cde Mohadi said he was impressed by the unity of purpose, and hailed the provincial chairman, Engineer Mackenzie Ncube, for handling party issues well in an environment devoid of factional fights.
