40 NGOs get green light
FORTY non-governmental organisations (NGOs), private voluntary organisations (PVOs), trusts and civil society organisations (CSOs) have been allowed to work in Harare Province after meeting the requirements of the Harare Provincial Development Coordinator.
On 30 June 2021, the PDC directed all NGOs working in the province to submit their credentials to the Provincial Development Committee.
Harare Provincial Development Coordinator Mr Tafadzwa Muguti said that those who met the criteria can resume their work.
“The office of the PDC would like to inform all the above mentioned NGOs, CBOs, trusts and all respective stakeholders that according to the policy on operations of non-governmental organisations in humanitarian and development assistance in Zimbabwe, published on 30 July 2003 by the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare paragraph 5.1.1 (ii) which states that in order for an NGO to commence operations at any level, they should sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the respective Government Ministry or agency and also secure a resolution with the Provincial Development Committee (PDC) that supports the need for its intended operations in the Province,” said Mr Muguti.

The permitted organisations are to conduct their operations within Harare Metropolitan Province subject to them complying with the outlined procedures.
He said those that failed to comply with the request on the 30th of June 2021 shall with immediate effect be stopped by law enforcement from conducting any operations what so ever until they fully comply with the policy by obtaining a resolution from the Provincial Development Committee and recognition by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution.
Those permitted are Action Aid Zimbabwe, Adult Rape Clinic, Birdlife Zimbabwe, CARITAS Zimbabwe, Childline Zimbabwe, Cancer Serve, Chiedza Chenyika, Consolidated Africa Services PVO, Destiny Mission Organisation, Deborah’s Heart Foundation, Danchurch Aid, Family Bonds Foundation, Faith In Community Aiders (FICA), Family Support Trust, Goal Zimbabwe, Helpline Zimbabwe, Harare Wetlands Trust, Harare Residents Frust, Integrated Sustainable Livelihoods, Junior Achievement Zimbabwe (JAZ), KATSWE-Sista-H00d, Kunashe Foundation, Legal Resource Foundation, Mwenje Wedu Child Care, Netherlands Development Organization, Mwana Wedu Child Care, Plan International, Pangae Zimbabwe AIDS Trust, Restless Development, Robina Times Trust, Shamwari Yemwanasikana, SATWIIAT, The Future of Hope Foundation, The Hospice and Palliative Care Association, Worthy Work Care Trust, Youth Advocates, Zimbabwe Old People Association (ZOPA) and Zimbabwe Young Positives.
