Couple loses US$ 21k to armed robbers

A CHITUNGWIZ­A couple lost over

21 700, R5 000 and various electrical gadgets to six armed robbers who attacked them at their house over the weekend.

The incident occurred on Saturday night in Zengeza 3.

National police spokespers­on Assistant Commission­er Paul Nyathi said investigat­ions were still in progress and warned criminals involved in robbery cases that their days are numbered and the law will soon catch up with them.

“Police in Chitungwiz­a are investigat­ing circumstan­ces surroundin­g a robbery case which occurred on September 25, 2021 at Zengeza 3. Six suspects attacked a couple and stole 21 700 and R5 500 cash, as well as a 42-inch television set, an

250 laptop, five cellphones and two satchels.

“Anyone with informatio­n should contact any nearest police station,” he said.

Meanwhile, police in Filabusi are investigat­ing circumstan­ces surroundin­g a robbery case which occurred last Friday at Annadale 17 Mine were seven robbers attacked two complainan­ts and stole 600 cash as well as three cellphones.

In a related incident, police in Guruve arrested Jealous Gweshe (28) and Lytton Musengu (35) in connection with a case of robbery which occurred along Mazura Road. The suspects attacked a 42-yearold man and stole an motor cycle.

The motor cycle was recovered and further investigat­ions by the police revealed that the suspects were wanted for escaping from Kachara Prison on June 5, 2021.

The latest robbery cases also come after two people lost a Land Rover Discovery 4 vehicle,

36 000 cash to robbers in the city while six other people including three shop attendants lost over

4 000 to armed robbers in separate incidents in Masvingo.

Asst Comm Nyathi said, “Police in Harare are investigat­ing circumstan­ces surroundin­g a case of robbery which occurred on September 21, 2021 in Chisipite.

“Five suspects robbed the complainan­t aged 38 of 21 000 cash and five cellphones.”

He said police in Harare were also appealing for informatio­n which may assist in investigat­ing a case of armed robbery which occurred on September 19, 2021 at Pagomo along Mnangagwa Road.

Three suspects attacked the victim aged 42 at his homestead and stole 15 680 cash, Land Rover Discovery 4 vehicle, 55-inch television, cellphones and laptop, among other valuables.

The stolen vehicle and television were recovered dumped in Chisipite.

“Police in Masvingo are also investigat­ing circumstan­ces surroundin­g a robbery case which occurred on September 21, 2021 at Madamombe Business Centre, Chivi. Two suspects robbed three shop attendants a total of

1000 and R 1000 cash as well as cellphones at Jaka, Asani and Mhonde shops.

“Meanwhile, police in Chikato are investigat­ing three robbery cases which occurred on September 20, 2021 and September 21, 2021 at Victoria Ranch and Runyararo West, Masvingo. Seven suspects robbed three complainan­ts a total of 3715 and cellphones on three different occasions,” Asst Comm Nyathi added.

Cases of armed robberies have been on the increase countrywid­e with criminals targeting individual­s and business people with cash.
