Man seeks help for emergency kidney transplant

- Precious Manomano

A MAN from Domboshava is facing health complications after his family failed to raise US$20 000 to cater for transport costs and medical expenses for emergency kidney transplant in India.

Mr Barnabas Zimbiru said his younger brother Blessing (22) was born with small kidneys and the problem started coming out early January this year where he began to face problems of breathing that resulted in his body swelling.

Blessing’s condition is becoming worse by each day. Blessing has been diagnosed with acute renal failure and he has been receiving dialysis with assistance from his family, relatives and well-wishers.

“We are appealing for US$20 000 to enable Blessing to survive, we discovered the problem this year so we are therefore appealing for assistance from well-wishers, we alone as a family cannot raise the needed money.

“After every two weeks he goes for treatment at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals,” he said.

He said one of the family members has pledged to donate a kidney to Blessing.

He said Blessing survives on very small amounts of food, a directive from the specialist doctors. Chronic kidney disease is common in both developed and developing countries. Despite one in 10 people world wide ( an estimated 850 million people) having chronic kidney disease, treatment and prevention efforts to stem this potentially fatal condition are far from adequate in rich countries and often near non- existent in poor countries.

Latest estimates from the global burden of Diseases Studies(2017) show the disease as the 12th leading cause of death worldwide.

The epidemic is described as silent because in most cases, by the time symptoms occur the disease is at a very advanced stage.
