Fledgling local company Nyamatsatse dreams big

- Business Reporter

DIVERSIFIED construction and mining group, Nyamatsatse, has set up operations across the country to drive national productivity and employment creation in line with Zimbabwe’s national vision of attaining upper middle-income economic status by 2030.

Nyamatsatse Group of companies has a foothold in food, tourism, construction and mining industries.

Group chief executive officer Mr Kudakwashe Munsaka Mavula said Nyamatsatse’s operations were responding to the national development plan, the National Development Strategy (NDS1), which seeks to lay the foundation for an empowered and prosperous upper middle-income society by 2030.

“We must take the initiative in developing our country. We are building institutions that will compete regionally, continentally and on the international markets,” said Mr Mavula who doubles up as the managing director of Nyamatsatse Mining House.

He noted that the domestic economy was on the rebound after more than two decades of stagnation due to illegal sanctions imposed by the West.

“We are in sectors that address and serve our day-to-day needs. We feel as indigenous players we know best what our people need to lead fulfilling lives.

“The Second Republic has given the business community a fresh breath of life through opening doors for business, engaging and re-engaging with the international community,” notes the chief executive officer.

He said their focus as a group of companies was not only on making profits but also developing communities in which they operate as expounded by the Government’s mantra — “Building a Prosperous Zimbabwe, Leaving No One and No Place Behind”.

The group also runs Nyamatsatse Resorts in Shamva, Nyamatsatse Concrete Products in Mutare, Nyamatsatse Nutri Products in Harare and Nyamatsatse Mining House, which is based

in Binga.

The construction segment, Nyamatsatse Concrete Products, currently has capacity to produce 50 000 bricks and 20 000 pavers per day.

The brick and pavers manufacturer has been in operation for at least four months and has hundreds of people benefiting directly and indirectly from the company’s operations. The enterprise is angling to employ more people in Manicaland.

“We believe we are building what will be one of the largest concrete product businesses and the next big thing from Zimbabwe and Africa. An upper middle-income economy means there are going to be more people in need of housing and generally more infrastructure. We are keen to invest more in the business.

“Demand for quality building products is high in Manicaland at the moment, which is a big boost for our operations. We want to attract customers and create thousands of jobs. Homegrown businesses will always be controlled, influenced and gravitate towards local needs, desires and intentions as opposed to foreign entities,” added Mr Mavula.

In Binga and Hwange, Nyamatsatse Mining House is presently at the greenfield stage, exploring various minerals that include coal, rare gemstones, lithium, gold, and diamonds among others.

“We have received a number of samples of those minerals, which have been taken to the laboratories. As you are aware, Binga is an area known to have minerals like diamonds, copper, gold, special gems, emeralds, and garnets; we are exploring all those,” he revealed.

“All necessary authorities have been engaged with regard to our operations so that we get a special grant from the President.”.

According to Nyamatsatse Nutri Products marketing director, Mr Martin Nyazema, the division deals mainly in fast-moving consumable goods (FMCGs).

“These are goods that are needed on a daily basis by the common man and woman. We want our products to be on the table of every household in the country, nourishing families,” said Mr Nyazema.

The diversified products offered by the company include sugar beans, soya chunks, kapenta, popcorn, salt, and samp among other foodstuffs.

Quality and affordability, Mr Nyazema added, were top of their priority. Meanwhile, Nyamatsatse Resorts is an outdoor leisure centre suitable for family gatherings, team building activities, braais and parties.

“We are rebuilding this facility into being a pride and income to all stakeholders concerned and cater for business and recreational activities.

“We realised that in today’s world, with so much competition, targeting only one niche or market segment is not enough. That is why we have decided to market ourselves in terms of diverse interests. We will be selling Nyamatsatse Resorts as a destination not only for couples but also families, for nature lovers, for wellness and retreats, for meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE) and water sports.”

The tourism operation, he said, came with a varied range of opportunities not just for travellers but the community as well. The establishment offers mountain and rock climbing, fishing, sailing, canoeing platforms.
