PREMIER Lifestyle, a product of Premier Service Medical Aid Society will be offering free screenings to willing participants at the Zimpapers Cancer Power Walk-Harare edition taking place tomorrow.
In an interview with The Herald yesterday, Premier Lifestyle Programme coordinator Dr Tapiwa Chiworeka said screenings on offer include pelvis and prostate scans, blood pressure, blood sugar diabetes and body analysis.
He said Premier Lifestyle will also provide health education and coaching on the importance of healthy lifestyles and good eating habits to curtail prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as cancers.
Dr Chiworeka said the Walkathon works as a reminder to all Zimbabweans to embrace brisk walking as a form of exercise to mitigate lifestyle diseases.
“Statistics show that most of the non-communicable diseases result from lifestyle risk factors such as sedentary lifestyles and poor diets. By taking part in this Walkathon, we are reminding all Zimbabweans that even a little walking has an impact on one’s wellbeing, hence must be embraced.
“It’s not all about going to the gym or running that matters, even brisk walking impacts in a big-way, that is why it is a power walk,” said Dr Chiworeka.
PSMAS communications and stakeholder relations manager Ms Paidamwoyo Chipunza said they were looking forward to the event as it provides the Society with an opportunity to contribute towards the wellness of not only PSMAS members but entire Zimbabweans.
“All our screenings and health education will be open to all participants regardless of whether one is a PSMAS member or not. Our message is clear, early diagnosis save lives, hence our partnership with Zimpapers to promote a healthy population,” said Ms Chipunza.
She said in Bulawayo, a cancer survivor, who is a PSMAS member and has been getting assistance from the Society will also be sharing her experiences with participants during the Bulawayo Walkathon being held at the same time with the Harare edition. Masvingo, Gweru and Mutare will also take part in the physical Walkathon while the rest will join virtually. Zimpapers has been hosting the power walk since… This event comes at a time when most people now have a clear understanding of health wellness and are conscious about their lifestyle choices and the impact thereof. A number of other activities are lined-up for the day being brought in by different partners. All proceeds realized from the event will be channeled towards charity through Zimpapers.
