THE community have welcomed the reopening of the popular local Legacy International School in Greystone Park after its owners were on sabbatical focusing on other projects.

The private school which was recently launched at an event which attracted the Permanent Secretary of Primary and Secondary Education Mrs Tumisang Thabela who congratulated the founding member of the school Commissioner Apostle Petunia Chiriseri, for the step to revive the vision of the school.

“We congratulate Legacy International School for the acquisition of this beautiful 3.5 hectares of land in the heart of Borrowdale and for building these 10 classrooms, a double storey block with nine ablution blocks and ground in pipeline among others,” she said Mrs Thabela.

“These are the requirements for the formal registration of all primary schools. We wish to applaud this woman-driven effort to compliment Government efforts to provide quality education to Zimbabweans.”

Commenting on the school, Apostle Chiriseri said the Legacy International curriculum has already been set for next year as enrolling has begun.

“The curriculum is all- encompassing taking care of the overall health and well-being of the pupils by providing free teas and lunches. Legacy was also giving psychosocial support to troubled pupils who found it difficult to concentrate because of problems back home,” she explained.

“Our teacher to pupil ratio is 1:1315 pupils. We have facilities for baby care from three months to allow professional mums to go back to work without the stresses of good domestic helpers sometimes not being available. We also have a wide variety of sporting options and continuous development of our sporting facilities.”

Apostle Chiriseri boasted about their online facilities.

“Online schooling will be continued and ICT studies will incorporate some basics of cybersecurity so that Legacy once again becomes a household name.

By the way ,we have been operating for 10 years from 2007 to 2016. In spite of the challenges and setbacks we faced in 2016 after the death of another cofounder of the school in an accident which also left me heavily injured, I am now here picking myself up and the vision and that’s the reason we are here today.”

Legacy International school started in January 2007.

She said the reopening of Legacy International School opens painful memories for her.

“The emotional healing has not been instantaneous as the physical wounds which God’s presence, the Holy Spirit healed miraculously after a seven-hour operation.

“The emotional healing was a lot slower. It was a tragedy not just for the family, the church (ministry), the school, but also for the members of the church.

“The reopening has taken a lot of emotional strength but I am excited because it’s a testimony of God’s loving kindness, faithfulness, anointing and healing power.”

A parent identified as Micheal Mhende of Greystone Park said he was happy that the school was reopening.

“Good news for us. The school is close to my home and I like their facilities especially on foreign languages too,” he said.
