Govt re-tenders Murehwa-Madicheche road upgrade

UPGRADING of the Murehwa-Madicheche Road, in Mashonalan­d East Province is set to commence soon after the Government re-tendered the project.

The upgrade includes surfacing and widening that will ensure the road is user friendly to motorists and commuters who use the stretch.

Murewa-Madicheche Road links Mashonalan­d East and Mashonalan­d Central provinces through Mazowe Bridge.

Various companies have been tasked with upgrading of this road before, but they have been doing it at a snail pace, and now Government is re-tendering it, as it is keen to see it completed soon.

Mashonalan­d East Provincial roads engineer Ms Martha Ndoro said already they have visited the site, as the re-tendering process progresses.

“Re-tendering is progress and already a site visit was done yesterday (Monday). The process will end this week on Friday,” Engineer Ndoro said.

This road passes through Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe district and people from there have always appealed to the Government to expedite its upgrading.

Upgrading of this road will boost economic activities between Mashonalan­d East and Central provinces.

UMP will benefit also especially commuters who are being charged high fares by transport operators due to the bad state of the road.

Meanwhile, progress is being made on the upgrade of the Hwedza-Mushandira­pamwe road, with more than 8 km now opened to traffic. Masimba Holdings, the contractor tasked with the upgrading of 22 km stretch along Hwedza-Mushandira­pamwe highway.

Government through the contractor is upgrading this road under the Emergency Road Rehabilita­tion Programme (ERRP) and there is notable progress in as far as road works are concerned.

Engineer Ndoro said road works are progressin­g well.

“About 8.8 km have already been surfaced on this road, also 4.5 km earthworks are in progress as we speak, the contractor is on the site, working on the road,” she said.

Hwedza-Mushandira­pamwe road links Hwedza district and Marondera and Harare and is key for economic activities across the Mashonalan­d East Province.

It is this road which most farmers use to transport their produce to local markets in Mashonalan­d East Province as well as to Chitungwiz­a and Harare.

Masimba Holdings is upgrading the road from Feles Business Centre near Hwedza Growth Point going towards Mushandira­pamwe Business Centre.
