Chitepo School of Ideology nears completion
THE Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology headquarters under construction at the south-east corner of Samora Machel Avenue and Simon Vengayi Muzenda Street in Harare is nearing completion, with the first enrolment expected in January next year.
The three floor building will have six classrooms with a carrying capacity of 360 students per enrolment. There is a canteen, information technology centre, library and records rooms.
The ground floor has been completed, with the contractor finalising details on the first and second floors.
Training at the college is open for everyone.
The school was meant to prepare a basic orientation course which is designed to offer ideological orientation to all sectors of the Zimbabwean society ‘leaving no one and no place behind’ as directed by President Mnangagwa.
Speaking after touring the building site, Zanu PF Treasury General Cde Patrick Chinamasa said construction of the college will be completed soon.
He was accompanied by Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology Principal Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, Deputy Secretary Cde Michael Nyambuya, Director General Cde Dickson Dzora and other senior party officials during the tour.
The construction of the project started in 2021.
“We acquired the stand under the Herbert Chitepo Trust,” said Cde Chinamasa. “This stand is owned by the trust and the intention was to put up this building so that it serves as our ideological school for training.
“It’s not just for party cadres. We intend to train anyone in the private sector, be it in mining, banking, education and others to better our economy.
“Unity, development and peace, that is what we want to promote and the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology will be doing classroom teachings to all sectors, be it churches, private sectors, industry and commerce. They will be free to send their leadership for training at the school.
“This project is a three floor building, and is on course to be completed by December this year. We hope that all things being equal, we should start seeing activities from January next year onwards. We are going to have some six classrooms.”
A statue of Cde Chitepo will be erected at the site.
“We want this building to be inspirational to future generations. What takes place at this building will shape the future of this country both politically and economically. We want the whole population to move as one going to the future,” said Cde Chinamasa.
