CABS Candidates Chess Tourney dates set

THE Zimbabwe Chess Federation yesterday revealed this year’s edition of the CABS Candidates Chess Tournament will be held from December 2 to 5 at Gifford High School in Bulawayo.

The prestigiou­s tournament is open to Zimbabwean­s of all ages, and will showcase the nation’s top chess talents across three categories.

Athletes will compete in the Open Category, Women’s Category, and the Developmen­t Under-16 Category.

CABS Candidates Chess Tournament, is a key event on the national chess calendar which is expected to showcase skill, strategy, and determinat­ion by chess players.

Participan­ts will have an opportunit­y to secure a place in the National Championsh­ips for next year.

Todd Mapingire, the ZCF secretary general expressed the federation’s appreciati­on to CABS and the anticipati­on surroundin­g the event.

“As Zimbabwe Chess Federation we extend our sincere gratitude to CABS Zimbabwe for their generous sponsorshi­p of the event.

“Building on the success of the 2022 edition, CABS has once again demonstrat­ed its commitment to the growth and developmen­t of chess in Zimbabwe. Their support has been instrument­al in elevating the tournament to new heights, providing a platform for players to showcase their talents and compete for the coveted titles,” said Mapingire.

The chess community is in for a thrilling festive season with the Victoria Falls Academy Inaugural Chess Tournament 25-29 November, the CABS Candidates Tournament and the National Chess Championsh­ip to be held December.

This edition promises to be highly competitiv­e and exciting as players battle for the privilege to compete in the National Championsh­ips next year.
