Year-end tournament for Seke Christian League
SEKE Christian Soccer League is set to host an end-of-year tournament in Chitungwiza at Seke 6 High tomorrow.
The league comprises 11 teams and all are set to battle for honours as they seek to end the year on a high note.
League spokesperson Talent Chinyemba said football is uniting people from different churches as it now works as a platform to share and learn for the members.
“The league comprises denominations in Chitungwiza, which are actually interested in footballing activities.
“It came into life after realising that it's very possible for different churches to participate in footballing activities and, at the same time, share the word of God.
“Considering the fact that we have different ideologies it was discovered that we can share views and others can learn and correct others where necessary.
“Also, it was discovered that it may be used as a breeding ground for future footballers and try to occupy the youth and ensure they will refrain from the abuse of drugs.
He added:
“We also encouraged the youths to finish their studies because here in Chitungwiza, a lot of youngsters are dropping out of school because of drug abuse.
“Every window period, we take these youngsters for trials in the professional football team. Last mid-season window period, we managed to find clubs for 10 youngsters, in Division One and Division Two, respectively. This is good for these youngsters because some of them are talented, but they don't have the capabilities and resources to go for trials.
“And on Saturday, churches will be playing against each other, and winners will be awarded. We usually do an opening tournament when starting the league around February. The closing tournament is usually around the end of November,” he said.
