SEASONED gospel musician Minister Rumbidzai Munyuni has said apart from Christianity, her music is about celebrating the journey of self-discovery that women take, and finding their true worth has been a top priority.

Munyuni, affectionately known as Minister Rumbie in the music circles, revealed this to The Herald Arts after staging a successful Worship Lounge concert recently which attracted over 500 people, a number she never thought of.

“Well, to begin with, I am chuffed with what I witnessed on the attendance. Here in Scotland, somehow it is rare to have a show with about 500 people and see them happy and appreciating the music,” she said.

“The event was a success and exceeded our expectations. I have decided to make it an annual event and hopefully will be bigger and better. We will announce the new venue and date soon.”

She said she recorded a live DVD during the Worship Lounge, which will be released soon as it’s in post-production.

“All the artistes were on point and delivered an outstanding performance, leaving the crowd clamouring for more,” said Minister Rumbie. “During my segment it was planned that we record a live DVD, hence the set but I am happy everything went according to plan.”

Minister Rumbie said while her professional singing career took off at church during her final high school year, she thought of empowering women and giving them hope.

“Music is my passion. When I was in high school, I started liking writing music and poetry, essentially anything that allowed me to use my creativity,” she said.

“I professionally started taking singing seriously in 2019. We also run a business with my husband and this has helped us to grow musically, as sometimes what we sing about is what we could have achieved or based on societal settings.”

Minister Rumbie added that her journey in the music industry has been enriching, colourful and very multi-dimensional. “It came with its challenges but it is through God’s grace to still be here, doing what I love because a lot of artistes who I started with years ago aren’t here anymore, so to still be relevant is a blessshe ing,” said.
