Bernard wanted in Mzansi

RENOWNED Zimbabwean player agent Gibson Mahachi has revealed that a number of foreign clubs are interested in snatching the signature of Warriors and Chicken Inn goalkeeper Donovan Bernard.

Bernard was this season on top of his game to give his deputy Pride Zendera time in their fight for the starting place in between the sticks for Gamecocks.

“All I can tell you is that some foreign teams have made enquiries with interest in signing Donovan Bernard. We are trying to pursue those enquiries. I look after (Donovan) and Chicken Inn should know that the boy is wanted elsewhere. Check with them (Chicken Inn) but I would mention the clubs that want to sign the player,” said Mahachi.

The imposing Bernard who recently bounced back into the Warriors fold reportedly signed a contract extension with 2015 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions Chicken Inn.

While Chicken Inn secretary-general Tavengwa Hara said they were not aware of the interest on their player a source close to Bernard said South African elite football league outfits that include Polokwane City and SuperSport had developed a soft spot for Bernard.

The clubs are reportedly looking forward to signing the player during the January transfer window.

Last year, Bernard watched in disbelief when his intended move to South Africa collapsed and he had to retrace his steps to Chicken Inn.

This was after the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) changed goalposts on the player’s wages.

The Warriors goalkeeper’s personal terms had been agreed before he travelled to South Africa. Tshakuma Tsha Madzivandila changed on the contract that they had agreed with Bernard while he was still in Zimbabwe electing to drastically reduce the offer they had tabled to the player.
