US$1m new Murambinda quarry ready for commissioning

THE new US$1 million Prevail Quarry Mine in Murambinda is now operating with a capacity to crush about 120 tonnes of quarry stone per hour.

The mine will produce stone for concrete while dust from the operations will be used to mould bricks and drain pipes as part of value addition and creating downstream jobs.

At least 80 local people will be employed in the first phase situated less than 2km from Murambinda Growth Point.

The new mine, which is under the Prevail Group International (PGI) consortium, started operations last month after successfully going through trial phases.

PGI group spokesperson Mr Dumisani Chihoto recently said all was set for the commissioning of the plant.

“We have started production and the plant produces 120 tonnes per hour. The total investment for this quarry plant including machinery, exchange houses, offices and everything is at least US$1 million,” he said.

“The machine is now running and has employed quite a number of people, general labourers, technicians, operators and now we have about 80 people.”

Mr Chihoto said more people would be employed after adding another plant to do civil engineering materials like bricks.

“We are going to employ more people from the community who will be empowered,” he said.

“The customers are already there. We already have companies like Sabi Mine, the new mining giant in Buhera. They have already visited us here for our products.

“Before our operations, they were taking supplies from Mvuma so will be supplying them,” he said.
