Brand new patrol vehicles for Harare
TWO brand new patrol vehicles were handed over yesterday to Harare City Council’s traffic department by City Parking, a council subsidiary, to be used for enforcement of by-laws.
Speaking during the handover of the vehicles at Rufaro Stadium in Mbare, City Parking vice chairperson Thamsanqa Dangazela, said City Parking was committed to the provision of quality services.
“This is an epoch-making event. A wonderful and gigantic moment for us as City Parking, as we present these vehicles to the city of Harare. We were asked to do this, and we are privileged to inform you that today we are here with what was asked of us,” he said.
Harare Mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume thanked City Parking saying the number of vehicles would be increased to enhance mobility and enforcement of traffic by-laws.
“I know that there are mixed reactions around issues of City Parking but what we are doing is what happens in every city in the world. Parking is at a premium in any big city, more so a city like Harare, which has a lot of traffic and is the capital city and where everybody does business one way or the other,” he said.
Harare City Council chief traffic officer Mr Martin Chimombe promised to make good use of the vehicles.
“I am very glad that today we have been handed these two vehicles.
“We should try, by all means, to make sure that we keep what we get and we use them to the maximum, as per the intention of our leaders and our principles.”
Harare City Council, which wholly owns City Parking, has over the years expressed great satisfaction with the performance of the entity which makes money for the city.
