Students, staff in danger at Mutare Girls High

-

THANK you for allowing me space in our provincial flagship print news carrier to bring to the attention of the relevant authorities some of the illegal activities being allowed to happen in Mutare.

A concern masquerading as a car wash located next to Mutare Girls’ High School is doubling up as a fuel black market procurement centre. The fact that highly volatile fuels are openly being sold at this place which is close to a school poses a grave danger to the safety and lives of all students and staff at Mutare Girls’ High School.

In the event of an explosion, the fire will engulf not only classrooms, but also the nearby girls’ hostels and administrative offices.

Apart from fuel, this illegal establishment’s proprietors also sell drugs such as mbanje and cough mixtures.

Rumours abound that even diamond and gold are traded at this place.

Another eyesore is the parking lot at Mutare Central Police Station which has been allowed to become a de-facto car-wash operated by some uncouth and unscrupulous youths whose mere presence spits in the face of law enforcement.

Commissioner-General Dr Augustine Chihuri, are police stations now illegal market places? Certainly, lines have to be drawn as to where informal economic activity can take place and where it cannot.

My plea goes out to the newly appointed Mutare City Council Town Clerk, Mr Joshua Maligwa to find a place for these youths to carry out their car-wash services other than in the Central Business District in front of the police station. Sally Fermoy, Mutare
