Tendai Dembo keeps father’s legacy alive
ALTHOUGH the late musician Leonard Dembo’s shoes are too big for him to fit in, his son, Tendai has shown great enthusiasm and determination to keep the musician’s legacy alive.
Tendai, who is leading the Barura Express band, has embarked on a nationwide tour to market his last album titled ‘‘Mushando’’. He will be in Mutare this weekend for a performance at Club Mandisa tomorrow (Saturday).
He will date fans from the eastern border city for the second time since the release of ‘‘Mushando’’. The album carries two hits namely ‘‘Enia’’ and the title track ‘‘Mushando’’, which received rave reviews across several national radio stations including Radio Zimbabwe Top 20.
Dembo, in an interview said he will belt out a blend of new and old hits from his late father’s rich discography.
“It will be refreshing to date our loving fans in Mutare again. Tendai has upped his game to the shock of most of his fans because he can now play the lead guitar just like his father. We will also unveil some new songs from our forthcoming album due for release early next year. We are holding shows in and out of Harare as we aim to popularise our brand,” said Tendai, speaking through his manager, Petros Bere.
Club owner and show promoter Boniface Nyamanhindi confirmed hosting Barura Express adding that his club continues to offer the best entertainment in the city.
“We will continue to give our fans what they request for. As we draw near the festive season, we want to make sure that our fans get the best entertainment ever. We have no doubt that Tendai will deliver the best,” he said.
Tendai ventured into music in 2007, alongside his brother, Morgan before they released their debut album ‘‘Kut- sika Matsimba’’ in 2013.
The siblings later went separate ways because of unclear reasons. This prompted Tendai to go solo and release ‘‘Kupakwashe’’ in 2014.
