Solve Hobhouse water crisis please

- Concerned residents!

EDITOR — I want to thank you in advance Editor for publishing this letter. On behalf of all Hobhouse residents, I want to register our complaint to the Town Clerk for the water crisis that we have been facing between Saturday and yesterday. We had to travel for more than a kilometre to fetch water at Mushamukadzi and Weirmouth plots.

On Monday we were told that the problem will be resolved immediately by the responsible personnel but alas nothing has been done.

I was very disappointed to note that the water tank was spilling treated water into the nearby canal when the residents who are a stone throw away are scavenging for it.

What pains us most is the fact that bills continue to come when we have not enjoyed the precious liquid.

Why are we being treated like this by the municipality? For how long should we suffer erratic water supply?

We have cases of water being switched on in some places in Hobhouse and Hobhouse 2 around 10am (earliest) every day and the water supply is switched off as early as 6pm in the evening. During the evening there is nothing! On weekends, the earliest we get water is 2pm and some sections do not get the water at all due to low pressure. We wonder whether the water also attends church services on Saturdays and Sundays! We want the water supply 24/7 in Hobhouse because it is available and must not be rationed as is the case now. May the powers that be at Civic Centre look into the unfolding water crisis as a matter of urgency.

We deserve to be treated fairly like all other residents in Mutare. We are sick and tired of being treated like second class citizen. We are not going to tolerate flimsy excuses from your subordinates and we also urge the powers that be to visit all affected areas to get first hand information to avoid being fed falsehoods.

Thank you for attending to our water problem. Asante Sana!
