Bus driver, stop speeding

-

EDITOR — On April 21, 2018 around 0730hours I boarded yellow bus (name withheld) at Penhalonga turn-off bus stop en-route to Harare.

I was going to Nyazura, another bus overtook us and our driver started chasing it. The speed chase was dangerous. When he was about to overtake the other driver encroached into our lane so as to block him.

Our driver started all manners of tricks including trying to overtake from the wrong side.

It was terrifying. They behaved like buses on a video game.

Passengers started screaming and shouting, but the driver paid no attention.

Instead two young men started shouting and calling people cowards and that how dare they want to teach a qualified driver how to do his work.

We were driving towards Odzi (Riverside). At this point I got up and told the conductor that I wanted to get off because the driver was on a seemingly suicidal mission.

The conductor (bless his soul) was not rude and never joined the noise.

We had a dangerous abrupt stop at Odzi where the bus almost ran over a pedestrian. I got off and told the driver, ‘Mukwasha ndiri kuenda Nyazura asi ndavakudzika, nekuti urikufamba zvine ngozi’.

He did not respond.

I was not given a refund. Madriver emabhazi neemakombi kufa kwese kuri kuita vanhu havanei nako.

All the road safety campaigns are falling on deaf ears.

Mari yacho ngaitoshanda to represent injured people and relatives of deceased in the court of law.

I have attached my ticket for the journey.
