. . . Ma­jika in court facing in­fan­ti­cide charges

MA­JIKA ZAMUKUDZI ap­peared be­fore se­nior Chipinge mag­is­trate Mr Poterai Gwezhira on Mon­day facing in­fan­ti­cide charges.

She was not asked to plead and the mat­ter was re­manded to a date to be ad­vised as the ac­cused was not feel­ing well. Ma­jika has since been ad­mit­ted at Chipinge District Hospi­tal un­der guard of of­fi­cers from the Zimbabwe Prison and Cor­rec­tional Serves (ZPCS).

Edi­son Ndan­gana ap­peared be­fore the same mag­is­trate facing a con­ceal­ing charge. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was re­manded in cus­tody to to­day for sen­tenc­ing.

Mr Gift Bikita told the court that the in­ci­dent which oc­curred on May 1, 2018 in Ban­gira Vil­lage.

“Ma­jika in­di­cated that she had buried the baby in the gar­den. Ma­jika then im­pli­cated her boy friend and fa­ther of the baby Ndan­gana. She said Ndan­gana had ex­humed and re­buried the corpse on the banks of Mus­i­rizwi River in line with Ndau tra­di­tion.

“Ndan­gana was ap­pre­hended, in­ter­ro­gated and ad­mit­ted to the al­le­ga­tions and then led the vil­lagers to the shal­low grave where he had buried the body. The vil­lagers ex­humed the body and re­ported the mat­ter was re­ported to po­lice,” said Mr Bikita.
